Verdes showcased their skill securing a victory against Port Loyola. The final score was 3-1 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio on Sunday evening.

Colombian player Camilo Márquez Fajardo kicked off the scoring, netting the first goal in the 8th minute and handing the Green Machine an early 1-0 advantage in the 11th week of the Premier League of Belize’s 2023-24 Opening Season.

Later, the Cayo team had a chance to extend their lead to 2-0, but Uruguayan Nicolás Rocha saw national team goalkeeper Charles Tillett block his penalty kick. However, Verdes remained relentless, and their consistent pressure paid off. Star midfielder Krisean Lopez netted the second goal in the 42nd minute, solidifying Verdes’ 2-0 lead.

Port Loyola tried to stage a comeback with Latrell Middleton scoring in the 66th minute.

But Verdes quickly responded. Darrell Myvett sealed their 3-1 win by slotting in the third goal also in the 66th minute.

Now, with 22 points under their belt, Verdes lead by two points over both Progresso and Port Loyola. Just like Progresso the previous week, Port Loyola slipped from first to third place, now trailing Progresso based on goal difference.
