Shakira will headline a massive free concert in Brazil on May 2, as part of the “Todo Mundo no Rio” event organized by the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Colombian superstar is set to take the stage at the iconic Copacabana beachfront, in what is expected to be one of the country’s largest live music gatherings of the year.
The confirmation came from Rio’s city hall on Wednesday, following earlier reports by Brazilian journalist Lauro Jardim. The annual event has already hosted major global acts in recent years, including Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025, both of whom drew enormous crowds.
Speculation about this year’s headliner had been building for weeks. Rio mayor Eduardo Paes fueled anticipation after posting videos of several international artists on social media, including Justin Bieber, Shakira, U2 and Paul McCartney, accompanied by a cryptic caption that sparked widespread debate online.
The announcement follows last year’s record-breaking turnout, when Lady Gaga’s performance reportedly attracted more than 2 million people. As a result, expectations were high that the 2026 edition would feature an artist capable of matching that scale. Fans had floated names such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Britney Spears and Adele before Shakira was officially confirmed.
A longstanding connection with Brazil
This will not be Shakira’s first appearance in Brazil. The singer has maintained a longstanding relationship with Brazilian audiences, first performing in the country in 1997. Most recently, she brought her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour to Brazilian cities in 2025, including stops in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Since launching her career in the mid-1990s, Shakira has become one of the most recognizable figures in Latin music worldwide. She has successfully navigated genres ranging from rock and pop to reggaeton and vallenato, performing in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Her global hits and high-energy performances have helped her sustain a decades-long presence at the top of the international music scene.
Details about the May concert remain limited, but organizers have confirmed that the event will be broadcast live on Brazilian television network Globo, as well as on cable channel Multishow and streaming platform Globoplay.
With free admission and global broadcast coverage, the Brazil show is poised to become another landmark moment in Shakira’s career — and a highlight of the country’s 2026 cultural calendar.
