The Argentine government announced the arrival of the first shipment of refrigerated beef to El Salvador.

El Salvador received the first shipment of refrigerated beef from Argentina, Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship announced Thursday in a note.

Without detailing the export volume or price, the institution assured that the sales process was completed by complying with the health certifications for the refrigeration establishments, which began in 2023.

In this way, Argentina incorporates one more destination to its extensive list of buyers of cattle cuts, which includes the most demanding and relevant markets in the world, which demonstrates the competitiveness, quality and sanitary conditions of our meat products, the institution said.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele reacted to the news by ensuring that with – with greater competition, prices will fall and the quality of the beef consumed in El Salvador will improve.

El Salvador imported more than $220.5 million in beef at the end of 2023, where Nicaragua is the main supplier with $171 million, with a 75 percent stake, according to the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

The second largest supplier is Costa Rica, with $19.7 million (8.9 percent), followed by the United States with $11.9 million (5.3 percent). Guatemala, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay are also on the list of meat import destinations.

Argentina and El Salvador have strengthened their ties of cooperation. In early October, Bukele made a tour of the South American nation where agreements were signed on sports, energy and airport.

On the energy issue, Argentina’s National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) will support El Salvador in taking the first steps in the implementation of nuclear energy through caps and technical visits.
