Authorities in El Salvador announced this Sunday the capture of more than 20 people involved in drug trafficking in the last three weeks.

In an appearance in the interview program Front to Front of the Salvadoran Telecorporation, the Minister of Security, Gustavo Villatoro, pointed out that the fight to combat drug trafficking takes place in the national territory, especially in sectors where gangs operated.

In addition to the capture at sea, we will not tolerate drug trafficking in our country either, the minister said.

Villatoro stressed that the fight against drug trafficking is part of the instructions given by President Nayib Bukele to hit the economy of criminal structures.

On October 27, the headline reported on the capture of Carlos Alfredo Morales Urrutia and Genesis Belén García Reyes, who were engaged in distributing methamphetamine.

Local narcos, like those detained on the high seas, will be prosecuted for the crime of possession and possession of drugs, authorities said.

During President Bukele’s government, which began in 2019, security elements occupied at least 45 tons of different types of drugs, the head of the Ministry of Defense, René Merino Monroy, reported in October.
