The lawyer revealed that she will launch herself as a pre-candidate or presidential candidate with the National Party of Honduras.

The wife of former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, convicted of drug trafficking, announced today that she will seek the presidency of Honduras, starting for launching as a presidential pre-candidate in the National Party of Honduras.

“From this moment I will start an active and proactive struggle… I will do so from the position of seeking a pre-candidacy, a candidacy, the National Party of Honduras, for the presidency of the Republic, I know what needs to be done, I know the work,” said lawyer Ana García de Hernández, according to Honduran news.

The political aspiration was announced by Juan Orlando Hernandez’s wife at a press conference in which he considered “an injustice” the former president’s condemnation and urged the “people” to support her in what he called “a crusade for justice.”

Juan Orlando Hernandez, president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022, was captured in February 2022 and extradited in 2022 to the United States on charges of conspiring to traffic drugs and weapons. His brother, Juan Antonio Hernández, was sentenced in March 2021 to life imprisonment for drug trafficking. In the past he was a congressman and president during the government of Porfirio Lobo, former Honduran president, who also has a son convicted in the United States for drug trafficking who declared against Hernandez.
