The Panama Canal received a visit from the United States Ambassador to Panama, Kevin Marino Cabrera, on May 21.

The visit was part of an institutional outreach tour to provide the U.S. delegation firsthand knowledge of the canal’s operations, including stops at the Miraflores and Cocolí Locks.

The delegation also engaged in technical discussions about the canal’s capacity and strategic importance.

The United States remains the primary user of the Panama Canal, with more than half of the registered transits and 76% of the cargo linked to U.S. ports by the end of fiscal year 2024.

Ambassador Cabrera’s visit allowed him to observe the Neopanamax locks, which expanded the canal’s capacity, and to better understand its role in global logistics.

The tour highlighted the ongoing cooperation between Panama and the U.S. in maintaining a safe, accessible, and neutral passage through the canal.

Canal officials expressed appreciation for the ambassador’s interest and emphasized the canal’s critical function in facilitating international trade.
