More than 30 people have been killed in a tragic bus crash on a mountain road in Bolivia.

The vehicle fell nearly 800 meters (2625 feet) into a ravine in the Yocalla district.

Among those affected, 14 individuals sustained injuries, including four children. A local hospital official confirmed their condition in a video statement.

The accident occurred between the cities of Potosí and Oruro. Police suspect that speeding may have contributed to the crash.

According to police colonel Victor Benavides, the driver appeared to be “unable” to control the bus before it plunged.

This incident is one of the most severe road accidents reported in Bolivia this year.

Local sources indicate that several injured victims are in critical condition.

Road safety remains a significant issue in Bolivia, especially in mountainous regions. Deadly road accidents are unfortunately common. Last month, another bus accident near Potosí resulted in 19 fatalities.

Government data shows that road accidents claim an average of 1,400 lives per year in Bolivia, a country with approximately 12 million inhabitants. The high fatality rates highlight ongoing concerns regarding road safety measures and driver education.
