Over 2 million international visitors traveled to EL Salvador in H1

The United States, Guatemala and Honduras are some of the countries from which people entered El Salvador the most during this period.

The Directorate-General for Migration and Aliens reported that in the first six months of 2024 more than 2 million international visitors entered El Salvador.

From 1 January to 30 June 2024, 2,060,467 international travellers have entered the country, with land borders being the most used, the government said through social networks.

Among the countries where the largest number of visitors comes from are the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, as well as Costa Rica, Ecuador, Brazil and the Dominican Republic.
Income and outflows

The Directorate indicated that, during the first half of the year, 6.9 million people entered and left the country. Of this portion, 43% corresponds to Salvadorans and 57% to foreigners.

67% of the revenue and exits recorded in that period were made by land, while 32% used the air and 1 % the sea.

The largest flow of migratory movements is recorded at land borders with a total of 4.6 million entries and exits, the Directorate said.

Of this portion, a little more than 3.4 million domestic and foreign travellers entered the country through the different borders.

In detail, more than 1.1 million, 33%, used the airway, while more than 2.3 million, equivalent to 66.4%, were mobilized by ground means.

Migration indicated that 17,326 people were also counted entering the country through the sea.

In the case of departures, they amounted to 3.4 million in six months, of which 67.1% corresponded to movements by land.
