The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) enlists a project for the renewal of transport in the country that includes the segregated lane of the extinct Integrated Transport System of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador (SITRAMSS), said the head of the State portfolio, Romeo Rodríguez.
On November 6, in an interview on Channel 21, a viewer asked why the MOP does not remove the segregated lane of the SITRAMSS the separators to make traffic more agile and Rodriguez replied: We have a transport project in that area that we want to develop, we are looking for funding.
What’s going to happen is that when we start the transport project we’re going to have to spend again (referring to if they remove the separators). We’re going to have to destroy what we’ve already done and people are going to say why they did that, they’re throwing the money, that’s the reality that we haven’t done it right now, we don’t want to throw away the money. Better than that money (used) for that new project that we are looking for funding,” the official added.
Rodriguez was consulted during the interview what type of project they will implement using the segregated lane, but did not give details, he only said that we will continue working.
On Monday, the minister was in the YSKL radio interview, where he said that by 2025 we will start to see a fundamental change in terms of mobility – and in the same way he did not delve into the issue.
One of the actions known as this modernization plan promoted by the government is the 1,500 Chinese buses that the country has acquired through an in-kind loan with the Chinese company Yutong Bus CO.LTD.
So far, Rodriguez has not mentioned when the units will arrive in the country, but he has said that these will be operated by the current public passenger transport entrepreneurs, but he has not deepened how and the carriers are not certain of that since the official announced it in April of this year.
The metrocable project was also on the table. In May of this year, the RANIFIC PRESS cited information available on the website of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) where it was exposed to a project – in preparation, that would exceed $238 million, for metrowirees in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador (AMSS).
This editorial sent an email to Minister Rodriguez yesterday asking him to delve into the project they will implement using the SITRAMSS lanes and if there is progress in the metro, but at the close of this note there was no response to the request.
PROPUESTAS
Among the options for modernising public passenger transport, employers submitted proposals to the Government. One of them included the creation of an exclusive lane. On Tuesday in the interview of Channel 21, Lucio Vásquez, secretary of the National Transportation Bureau (MNT), said that this request did not go forward.
Then, on the arrival of the Chinese buses, the carriers analyzed other options and opted for the creation of the “bows.”
Entrepreneurs call the union of routes according to areas they have already defined. The basins are Soyapango-San Martín, Santa Tecla-Lourdes, Apopa-Cuscatancingo, San Marcos-Olocuilta and the central area of San Salvador.
What we are looking for is to create basins in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador that allows a better level of organization within those companies that are currently operating, to be more efficient,” Vásquez said.
