Maduro said that “someday, sooner rather than later, the new social networks, Venezuelans will be born” to free the country “from those people,” in reference to the owners of platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok.
Nicolas Maduro ordered on Thursday to remove the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, for a period of 10 days, for the company, owned by South African tycoon Elon Musk, to present “recaptured” to the authorities of the Caribbean country.
In a political act, the president explained that he signed the proposal to suspend X, drawn up by the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), in order to “make the laws respected.”
“It’s X for 10 days in Venezuela, to present collections and to establish the final administrative measure, but enough, enough, it’s enough to try to sow violence, hatred, to try to attack Venezuela from abroad,” said Maduro, who has accused Musk of being part of a “cyber state coup” against him.
He assured that “someday, sooner rather than later, the new social networks, Venezuelans will be born” to free the country “from those people,” in reference to the owners of platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok who, according to the head of state, function as “hate multiplyers” in the South American nation.
“Let everyone else put their beard soak, but I wasn’t born on the day of the cowards (…) we have to defeat the cyber, fascist and criminal coup,” he insisted.
Maduro, announced as the winner of the July 28 elections, has denounced that there is a coup plan to ignore his victory, after he was denounced as fraudulent by the majority opposition, international observers and foreign governments.
In rejection of his proclamation as re-elected president, he has unleashed a crisis in the country that has led to protests – some that have occurred in acts of violence – and police operations that result in 24 deaths, according to the NGO Provea and more than 2,400 detainees, according to the report updated this Thursday by the president.
