IOC authorities say Guatemala would be readmitted as soon as possible for its participation in sporting events.

The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, said Wednesday during his meeting with the president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo de León, that his organization is willing to work to get that country readmitted “as soon as possible,” which could allow the full participation of its athletes in Paris 2024.

An early readmission of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee, suspended by the IOC since August 2022, would open the way for its athletes to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games under the national flag and the usual protocol, the highest sports authority said in a statement after the bilateral meeting.
