Investment in vertical infrastructure is being enhanced in the Historic Center of San Salvador, as there is no space for single-storey constructions, Manuel Rodríguez Joachín, said Wednesday and director of the Planning Authority of the Historic Center (APLAN).

The Law on the Creation of the Historic Center establishes the different options for investments in activities that are related to culture, tourism, and real estate options. If we have a project to build a building, to adapt a hotel or apartment buildings, because in the Historic Center there is no space for single-storey housing, but there is space for apartment buildings, there is space for hotels, to adapt a property to provide an alternative of short-term accommodation, such as Airbnb, explained the official, in the interview of Diana Veronica and Tony.

In this regard, the official recalled that all investments made within the area that is governed by APLAN greater than $25,000 and with an area of 25 square meters are exempt from taxes.

All investments made in the Historic Center in the delimited space in which the Authority has competence, which exceeds $25,000, whose areas have more than 25,000 square meters are exempt from income tax, exempt from municipal taxes and the profits generated by this investment over a period of ten years are also exempt from income taxes, he explained.

The official said that they have already attended more than 85 entrepreneurs, investors interested in opening businesses in the Historic Center and spoke of some steps they must take for it.

Since the Authority of the Historic Center we have created a one-stop shop, which provides attention to entrepreneurs, investors to facilitate the procedures, in this sense it must carry out a process of prior procedures, of qualification of the place, of verification of the place where it is intended to install a commercial establishment meets the requirements, since the Historic Center is not only commercial destination, but we intend to be of mixed use in which we can have housing, we can have shops, services and in that sense it is zoning, he said.

Rodríguez Joachín said that in addition to promoting the Historic Center as a tourist destination, as a pole of economic development, but also that the cultural and architectural heritage that we have in it is respected. Here in the Historic Center there are more than 100 buildings that have architectural value, which have historical value. We must remember that the buildings that have historical value are the urban area where the life of a city is swimming,” he stressed.
