The IMF Mission hopes to continue its discussions with the authorities in the context of Honduras’ economic programme.

A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Ricardo Llaudes, concluded a visit to the country on a technical mission, the multilateral agency reported Thursday through the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

Through a brief press release, the IMF indicated that at the end of the visit, Llaudes detailed that there were “open and productive” talks with the Honduran government, specifically with the Economic Cabinet.

“The team and the authorities held open and productive discussions on recent economic developments and future prospects,” says part of the writing.

He added that the team hopes to continue its discussions with the authorities within the framework of Honduras’ IMF-supported economic program.

“We would like to thank all our counterparts for the frank exchanges and for their kind hospitality,” the IMF said in its document.

No clear IMF visit results

For his part, Honduran economist Roberto Lagos considered that the IMF traveled to the Central American nation with the aim of calling for a further increase in the PMT and correcting the exchange rate delay (divaluation).

“That the statement is so brief makes it clear to us that there are no clear results of the visit and that the ball is now on the side of the Economic Cabinet,” Lagos said.

He added that “each day that passes without review of the agreement takes away credibility from the Economic Cabinet or.”
