Honduran journalist organizations have condemned recent actions by the military that threaten independent media and journalists.

This escalation followed a publication by the Honduran Armed Forces calling three prominent journalists “enemies of the state” without evidence.

This move signals a direct threat to press freedom and the safety of those practicing independent journalism in Honduras.

The Honduran Media Association and the Inter American Press Association both warned that these military-led threats put journalists at significant risk.

The Honduran College of Journalists pointed to involvement from the government’s highest levels.

Between 2001 and 2025, 101 journalists have been killed in Honduras, with most cases remaining unresolved.

The gravity of the situation is underscored by the Honduran National Commission of Human Rights’ data showing ongoing violence against the press.

From 2022 to 2025 alone, 11 journalists were killed, with very few justice outcomes, highlighting persistent dangers faced by the media in the country.
