The Adium Group announced an investment of about $46 million for the expansion of its pharmaceutical plant in Paraguay, seeking to double its production, mostly for export, to raise its workforce to about 1,000 direct jobs and create up to 300 indirect during the execution of the works.
The facility, located in the town of Fernando de la Mora and belonging to the Paraguayan company Fapasa, which is part of the Adium Group, produces 33 million units a year within a portfolio of 180 diversified products in areas such as cardiology, diabetes, urology, pain, oncology and haematology, among others, according to a statement released by the company in Asunción.
Production in Paraguay is 89 per cent on the export market and with the works, which would be completed between the end of 2025 and the early 2026, Fapasa plans to achieve production potential of between 70 and 100 million units per year, in addition to adding about 200 direct jobs to the current 800.
Today we aim to expand further, through an important investment in the Fapasa plant. Paraguay has enormous potential for industrialization and economic stability, and, proof of this, is all that we could grow in almost half a century of work, said the CEO of Adium Pharma, Patricio Rodríguez, who on Monday met with the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña.
The project, Rodriguez added, seeks that Fapasa, which exported about $35 million in 2023, has a much more modern plant, with advanced infrastructure and state-of-the-art technology.
The work will incorporate 7,000 square meters to the more than 10,100 currently occupied by the facility, which will be used, among others, for more productive areas, as well as to microbiology and physicomic laboratories.
This will lead to the country having a more competitive pharmaceutical industry, collaborating in its positioning as an attractive destination for investors, Rodriguez added.
This plant, which began operations on May 23, 1975, is very special for the Adium Group, because it was our first plant of its own and with it we began our journey of expansion to the rest of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, the executive concluded.
The Adium Group, based in Montevideo and with whose collaboration this note has been made, has a presence in 18 countries, with productive plants in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay, and has a team of more than 7,000 collaborators.
