El Salvador and the U.S. to Establish Mutual Customs Assistance Agreement

On Wednesday, November 6, the #ComDiásporaYLegislación passed the favorable opinion of the ratification of the mutual customs assistance agreement between the government of the United States and El Salvador.

The agreement will allow cooperation between customs services between the two countries, with the exchange of practices in customs management, the fight against infringements and the search for the exact valuation of customs taxes of both nations.

The Deputy Director of Customs, José Luis Maradiaga, said in the Commission that this agreement is planned to create the School of Integral Customs Training, to provide constant training not only in technical studies, but also in ethical principles with the aim of eliminating border corruption.

Maradiaga explained that among the expected benefits are the provision of tablets and mobile devices for process automation, the installation of photovoltaic panels in customs enclosures, as well as the renovation of offices of the Directorate General of Customs.

In addition, this agreement will be signed mutual recognition between the Authorized Economic Operator (OAS) programs of both countries, which are the Customs Trade Partnership Againts Terrorism (CTPAT) of the United States and the Confidable Operator of El Salvador (OAS-SV).
