The construction of the municipal market of the district of San Antonio del Monte, in Sonsonate Centro, began this month by a company contracted by the Municipal Works Directorate (DOM), with the financing of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE).

The project began with the demolition of a house where the new supply plant will now be built, on 1st South Avenue and 3rd Street Poniente, on the side of the central park of that town.

It will help us a lot to have a place to buy and the merchants to offer their products. “I hope the time set will be fulfilled,” said Rogelio Ulloa, a resident of the district.

Municipal sources detailed that the work will be completed in a period of approximately three months, so they expect the delivery of the new market in January 2025. Investment for this project exceeds $200,000, they said.

The construction of the San Antonio del Monte market was one of the priority projects requested in 2022 by the previous administration of former mayor Carmina Cuellar to the DOM, but it was not until 2023 that the institution began with the work of soil studies to evaluate the feasibility of the project.

The mayor of Sonsonate Centro, through the district of San Antonio del Monte, also swore a citizen surveillance committee to oversee the work.
