Brazilian exports of sugar and beef, products of which the country is the world’s largest exporter, set a new record in September, as the Ministry of Foreign Trade released today.

Brazil’s sugar shipments totaled 3,954 million tonnes last month, well surpassing the August mark of 3.921 million tonnes.

The total also surpassed the previous record of October 2020, of 3,951 million tons.

Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter of sugar. Record shipments occurred despite the crop deficit due to dry weather, although drought in the south-central part-south of the country also allows for greater use of the days of cane crushing and sugar production in the ingenuities of Brazil’s main producing region.

When it rains, the harvest work must be interrupted. Dry weather also favors port operations, which are paralyzed in case of rain.

For its part, beef exports from Brazil, the world’s largest exporter of the product, hit a new record in September, having registered new monthly brands in 2024.

Shipments of refrigerated and frozen meat, not including processed products, amounted to 252,000 tons, 28 percent more than in the same period last year. The previous record was set in July, when fresh meat exports reached 237.3 million tonnes.

In August, according to industry data, Brazilian shipments had been driven by purchases from China, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
