Brazil has sacked manager Dorival Junior following a disheartening 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Argentina in World Cup qualifying.

The Brazilian team now sits fourth in the South American group, having lost five of their last 14 matches.

Despite this setback, they remain in a solid position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Dorival Junior, who took charge in January 2024, had mixed results during his tenure.

Under his leadership, Brazil managed seven wins, six draws, and three losses over 16 matches, including a notable victory against England at Wembley.

His departure comes as the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) begins the search for a new head coach amidst heightened expectations and pressures.

Media speculation points to Jorge Jesus, currently coaching Al-Hilal, as a potential successor.

The CBF has also expressed interest in Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who was approached prior to Dorival’s appointment.

The upcoming decisions will shape Brazil’s path as they aim for success in the next World Cup.
