Homicides decreased by 15 percent in Guatemala in the first 75 days of the new government, said the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, on Thursday, who called for continued to seek better security results.

Let’s get on with it. Guatemalans need more and better results. There is no tomorrow, “LaSeguridadEsToday,” Jiménez posted on his account on the social network X, where he showed several graphics on criminal activity in the country.

The official said that on January 15, when President Bernardo Arévalo took office, until April 9, homicides dropped from 633 to 541, a 15 percent decrease.

Homicides against women decreased in that period from 84 in 2023 to 64 this year, while the cumulative criminal incidence decreased by 11 per cent, from 4,349 to 3,857 cases in the 55 days of the comparison of 2023 and 2024.

Achieving greater citizen security is one of the 10 fundamental axes of work of the Arévalo administration, in accordance with the government’s plans.
