El Salvador’s national men’s soccer team has experienced a slight decline in the latest FIFA Ranking, moving down one position. This change was anticipated before the official release by FIFA this Thursday.
The update, initially revealed by Mr. Chip, shows that El Salvador, commonly referred to as the Selecta, has dropped from 77th to 78th place in the global rankings. This shift sees El Salvador falling to the eighth position within the Concacaf region, overtaken by Honduras.
Honduras, which was ranked 81st at the end of 2022, has made a significant leap to reach the 76th position by the end of 2023, now ranking two places above El Salvador. This change in rankings can be attributed to the contrasting performances of the two teams in their recent matches. In November, Honduras achieved a notable victory against Mexico and narrowly lost to El Tri in a penalty shootout. Meanwhile, El Salvador managed only two draws against Curaçao, which evidently affected its position in the FIFA Ranking.
The new ranking underscores the dynamic nature of international soccer, with teams constantly vying for superior positions through their performances in various matches and tournaments. The slight drop for El Salvador highlights the competitive environment in the Concacaf region and the importance of consistent performance to maintain or improve standings in the global soccer hierarchy.
