Attorney General Reiterates Commitment to Work for a Country Where Women Live Safely

The Attorney General of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), Johel Zelaya, reiterated on Monday his commitment to work for a country where women live safely, the above in the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Reduction of homicides for women in 2024

The Minister of Security, Gustavo Sánchez, reported that in the first 10 months of 2024, a reduction in the homicide rate against women was achieved throughout the country.

In 10 months, the projected homicide rate is 26.7 per 100,000 inhabitants, the lowest in the last decade, based on data from the Online Police Statistical System (Sepol), which are made up of the Observatory of Violence of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (OV-UNAH).

Sánchez said that the reduction of homicides was achieved by effective security initiatives, such as the State of Partial Exception and the Settlement Plan against Crime.

IUDPAS: Death of Women by Homicide increased during 2023

The Faculty of Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) through the National Observatory on Violence attached to the University Institute for Democracy, Peace and Security (ONV-IUDPAS), presented the Bulletin No. 19 on Violent Death of Women and Femicide (MVMyF) which states that, in 2023, 411 women died homicidally in the country, representing an increase of 33.4% over the events recorded in 2022.
