The Minister of Security,Patricia Bullrich, who met Monday with the Salvadoran Minister of Justice and Security, Gustavo Villatoro, said that “inspired by the successful Bukele Model” they are applying “firm and determined measures against organized crime and gangs” of drug traffickers.
“We are building a doctrine that defends citizens and victims, not criminals,” said the Argentine official.
Bullrich announced that they will present a document on this “revolutionary” “paradigm change.” “Because the one who makes them pay for them,” he said.
To the news, theDeputy Raul Chamagua, of the official Salvadoran party, New Ideas, responded that Salvadoran states and institutions “must be at the service and defense of the good and honest people.”
“That is our obligation and commitment as a civil service. May the Salvadoran miracle serve to ensure that the Latin American peoples have the security they deserve,” the legislator replied.
TheForeign Minister of El Salvador and Argentina, Alexandra Hill and Diana Mondinohave already signed a Joint Declaration to strengthen commitment and strategic cooperation in economics, security, culture and nuclear energy, a declaration that is not yet public.
El Salvador has been applying an emergency regime since March 27, 2022 for gang members with which more than 80,000 alleged gang members have been captured; and more than 7,000 people released.
Drug seizures fell in 2019 to 2020 from 15,036.9 to 2,975.8 kilograms. On 28 August, Defense Minister Francis Merino reported the seizure of 43.5 tons of drugs, or 43,500 kilograms, during the administration of Nayib Bukele, an average of 8,700 kilograms per year.
The state newspaper El Salvador reported on August 16 that 2024 is the year of greatest confiscation, since from January to July there are 11.1 tons (11,100 kilograms) of confiscations; the same average records 11.8 in 2021 and 13 in 2022.
