International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has emphasized that Argentina must “stay the course” with President Javier Milei’s economic reforms to successfully address the country’s long-standing economic challenges.
She highlights that continued commitment to these reforms is essential for Argentina to “clean up” its economy and achieve lasting stability.
Speaking at the IMF spring meetings in Washington, Georgieva reaffirmed the multilateral lender’s support for the Milei administration, stating that “Argentina has shown that this time it’s different.”
This endorsement comes shortly after the IMF approved a US$20-billion program, with Buenos Aires already receiving US$12 billion under this deal.
The agreement focuses on fiscal consolidation, inflation control, and extended repayment terms, reflecting strict policy benchmarks.
These measures are intended to ensure Argentina remains on a path toward economic recovery and sustained growth.
