A general strike against public spending cuts in Argentina has brought the nation to a standstill, severely disrupting transport across the country.

The strike has led to the cancellation of all domestic flights, while train and metro services in Buenos Aires are also suspended.

Amid this upheaval, many shops in the capital remain closed, though bus services continue to operate.

The unrest marks the third general strike initiated by Argentina’s influential unions since President Javier Milei took office.

His administration has implemented strict austerity measures aimed at combating hyperinflation, which have reduced inflation rates significantly.

However, these measures have come at a considerable cost to the most vulnerable populations, prompting widespread dissent.

The impact of austerity is palpable, with retirees and low-paid workers facing severe financial struggles.

As tensions escalate, protests have turned violent, demonstrating the potential for broader social unrest amid ongoing economic challenges.
