Guatemala’s power regulator CNEE has approved the application by Tierra del Sol for the 75MW Tierra del Sol solar park, which will be situated in the municipalities of Masagua and Guanagazapa.
This project will connect to the national grid at the Jaguar Energy substation, contributing significantly to the country’s renewable energy capacity.
The approval came after the developer received environmental clearance and faced no objections from key stakeholders, including the state power company Inde and transmission operator Trecsa.
The authorization is valid until September 30, 2027, and if the project is not operational by this date, a new request for connection will be necessary.
Tierra del Sol secured a power purchase agreement during the PEG-4-2022 bidding process to supply energy to distributors Deorsa and Deocsa, collectively known as Energuate, as well as Eegsa.
With solar capacity in Guatemala growing nearly 60% recently, this development indicates a strong push towards sustainable energy solutions in the region.
