A light magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck near Usulután, El Salvador, on the evening of February 12, 2025, at 8:11 PM local time.

The quake occurred just 16 kilometers northeast of Usulután, resulting in a shallow depth of only 8 kilometers. While the event was recorded, it went largely unnoticed by residents, with no reports of felt tremors.

Located about 19.2 kilometers from San Miguel, the earthquake’s low magnitude and shallow depth typically result in minimal impact.

Earthquakes of this scale often serve as reminders of the seismic activity in the region, though in this case, it appears to have passed without notable concern.

Seismic events such as this one are common in El Salvador, a country situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is known for its tectonic activity.

Understanding these occurrences helps to prepare communities for potential future quakes, reinforcing the importance of awareness and emergency preparedness in earthquake-prone areas.
