New Ideas Representative sworn in as president of PARLACEN

Congressman Carlos René Hernández Castillo, from Nuevas Ideas, was sworn in on Monday with the board of directors 2024-2025 at the National Palace of Culture of Guatemala.

The solemn session was attended by the Vice President, Felix Ulloa; Guatemalan deputy César Augusto Amézquita; the acting president of the Supreme Court of Justice of Guatemala, Judge Carlos Rodimiro Lucero Paz; the Deputy Minister of Defense of Guatemala, Luis Alberto Juárez Betancourt, among others.

The outgoing president, MEP Ramón Emilio Gori, will become president as vice president.

“The Parlacen must adapt to modern times, responding effectively to the demands of our peoples, so that our citizens can perceive the benefits of integration,” Hernández said in his speech according to the press release.

The session was not publicly broadcast.

According to the press release, Ulloa said the challenge is that the eight member states of the Central American Integration System, SICA, are part of the regional political body.

The Board of Directors 2024-2025 is composed of the president, Carlos René Hernández Castillo, by El Salvador; the vice presidents: Edgar Antonio De León Torres, for Guatemala; Nedis Adrián Licona Reyes, by Honduras; Guillermo Daniel Ortega Reyes, for Nicaragua; Dorindo Jayans Cortez Marciaga, for Panama; and Ramón Emilio Gori Taveras, for the Dominican Republic.

With the secretaries: Cecilia Guadalupe Rivera Méndez, by El Salvador; Edgar Arturo Sis Bachan, for Guatemala; Jorge Fernando Jiménez Reyes, for Honduras; Aída Ester Blanco Talavera, by Nicaragua; Lesly Ariel Miranda Iglesias, for Panama; and Eddy Antonio Germán De León, for the Dominican Republic.
