With the installation of a solar system of 940.68 kWp at its headquarters in Panama, Hermanos Gago reduces operating costs and CO2 emissions equivalent to the planting of more than 6,940 trees, consolidating its commitment to the environment and energy efficiency

Hermanos Gago, a leader in the import and distribution of food products in Panama since 1997, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by implementing a solar system with Huawei solutions in its distributor located in the Industrial Zone of Panama City. Brothers Gago has always aimed to offer its customers high-quality domestic and imported products, and now also leads by example in environmental responsibility.

Economic and environmental impact

This solar project is divided into two main areas to meet the energy needs of cold rooms and office and packing areas. With an installed capacity of 940.68 kWp, a total of 2,800 solar panels and 13 Huawei investors branded the model SUN2000-60KTL-M0, the initiative has allowed Brothers Gago to cover 97% of its electricity consumption, significantly reduce its carbon footprint and the operating costs associated with electricity consumption.

This project, one of the largest in Panama made on the roof, took approximately 4 months to complete the installation in its entirety. Since its launch in March 2020, the photovoltaic plant has generated 10.68 GWh, and has allowed considerable savings in both energy and the environment, by ceasing to emit 5,080 tons of CO2, which would represent planting 6,940 trees.

The decision to install solar power in Brothers Gago was motivated by several key factors: environmental concern, commitment to sustainability and the need to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of its operations. The initial implementation, although faced some uncertainty due to the novelty of the technology in Panama, was successful and motivated the company to expand its solar systems. Currently, most of its operations are supported by solar energy.

Commitment to sustainability

“In Hermanos Gago we firmly believe in the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility,” said Ricardo Gago Salinero, president of Hermanos Gago. Our main goal in adopting a solar solution was to achieve a more sustainable and friendly operation, reducing our operating costs and increasing our self-sufficiency in terms of electricity consumption.

Brothers Gago’s vision of sustainability is clear: to be a responsible company with the environment and the community, considering energy efficiency as fundamental for a more sustainable and respectful future with the planet.

Experience with Huawei

The company in charge of the installation of the project, TECSAIN, has highlighted the excellent experience with Huawei investors used in this project. TECSAIN’s experience with Huawei investors has been extremely rewarding. The ease of installation and maintenance of Huawei investors has been a key factor in optimizing our solar projects, said Raúl Pinzón, manager of TECSAIN. The FusionSlar Real-time monitoring platform is exceptional, providing real-time data on the production of the solar plant, allowing us to detect and adjust any problems remotely and ensure optimal operation.

Looking to the future

This project not only represents a significant step towards sustainability for Hermanos Gago, but also demonstrates how companies can integrate responsible environmental practices into their daily operations, added Ricardo Gago Salinero. We are committed to continuing to implement sustainable practices and to continue looking for innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact.
