The institution imposed three fines amounting to $37,655 to be paid by three firms that did not provide information.

The Superintendency of Competition (SC) sanctioned with $37,655 to three companies that did not provide information required by the institution for research studies and procedures.

In a statement, SC detailed that a sanction was applied to the Distributor of Agua Santaneca S.A. de C.V. with $2,250 for not providing information requested for a study that it prepares on competition in the production and distribution of packaged water.

It also sanctioned Muinsa, S.A. de C.V. with a fine of $16,790 and S.I.E.D.E.S.S.S. de C.V. with $18,615, both dedicated to the private security services sector. As explained by the SC, the companies provided inaccurate information during a sanctioning procedure in which they are investigated for possible agreement to set and limit prices on public purchases.

The three sanctioned companies had the deadlines established by law and, despite having been warned about the consequences of not collaborating, failed to present the information at the required time, explained the SC in the statement, which also recalled that the law empowers it to impose fines of up to 10 ten minimum monthly urban wages for the industry to firms that deliberate or negligently provide the required data.

The Competition Act empowers the SC to conduct market studies to diagnose the conditions of competition for the activities of the Salvadoran economy. In addition, it is responsible for investigating when there are indications that companies have price-fixing agreements and approving business mergers.
