Panama’s Geisha coffee today recorded a new world record for the price of aromatic, reaching one of its lots of the $13,518 per kilogram in a private electronic auction of the same producer that already held the best previous mark.

This is Lamastus Family Estate, the company that has won the most awards at the Best of Panama, the most important event of coffee farming in the Central American country.

In a press release, the company detailed that the lot that recorded the world record price was Aguacatillo Elida Geisha Honey, weighing three kilograms and cultivated at 2,060 meters above sea level, in the town of Boquete, 500 kilometers capital of Panama.

It was the same lot that in 2022 imposed the highest price in the world of $13,286 per kilogram, said the general manager of Lamastus Family Estate, Wilford Lamastus, in the statement.

Lamastus explained that the high quality of this grain is due to the height where it is cultivated, an area where production is very scarce and the trees take a long time to grow and produce, but its quality is incomparable.

Among its hallmarks are its sweetness, balanced acidity and an intense floral that has impregnated the attributes of the genuine Geisha of Panama.

The Geisha coffee lot set managed to obtain an average auction value of $401.91, after receiving 3,582 offers for the 683 kilograms of coffee that entered the bid and repuja.

Coffee is one of the most important agricultural products in the country, especially in the Chiriquí region, where the famous high-rise coffee is grown in areas such as Boquete and Volcano.

Although the total production of aromatic in the Central American country is relatively small compared to other producing countries, its coffee, particularly Geisha, has gained international renown for its unique quality and taste, which has driven the price in export markets.
