Inflation in Guatemala continues to rise

The basic food basket and the expanded basket increased between Q18 and Q52 in one month according to per capita measurement carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Year-on-year inflation in July 2024 stood at 3.78% and although it is less than 0.75 than reported in July 2023 (4.53%), reflects a rebound from June of this year, when it stood at 3.62%.

Cost of baskets


The cost of acquiring the Urban Food Basic Basket (CBAU) per person in July was Q888.53, an increase of Q21.56 compared to that recorded in June of this year. Regarding what was reported in January 2024, Q42.26 has risen.

Meanwhile, the Basic Rural Food Basket (CBAR) per person in July of this year reached Q689.69, for an increase of Q18.73 in one month. Compared to January 2024, it is Q35.29 higher.

The Urban Expanded Basket (CAU) per capita per month last July was Q2 thousand 151.14, an increase of Q52.22 compared to June and compared to January 2024, is Q102.56 higher.

And the Rural Expanded Basket (CAR) is estimated at Q1 thousand 357.31 per person, rising Q37.20 compared to the previous month, according to INE data. As for January, Q69.63 has risen.
