There are no reports of changes in the disease, and it could be a mild cold.

The Ministry of Health of Guatemala confirmed the circulation of new variants of covid-19 this Thursday, KP and its sublineages .1.1, .1.1.3, KP.2, ..2.2, .2.3, .2.3, LB.1, LB.1.2 and LB.1.8, in addition to KS.1.1, LP.1, LU.1 and LU.2, the latter descendants of JN.1

The Guatemalan National Health Laboratory stated that it made 197 samples from May 31 to July 18 of this year, where the variant KP and the variant JN.1 prevailed.

Both the KP and LB-1 variant are under consideration by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Derived from the introduction of these new variants, at the beginning of June, an increase in cases of covid-19 was observed. No change has been reported in the clinical presentation of the disease, a mild clinical picture is still observed, as in previous variants, says the Ministry of Health statement.

In view of this, the Government of Guatemala calls for recommendations to prevent contagion, such as the use of masks if people have respiratory symptoms, keep distance, and remain in ventilated places.

These variants also appeared in Mexico at the end of June, where UNAM doctor Alejandro Macías explained that variants belong to the family of micron, and are characterized by being contagious and of rapid spread. Mexico has had a rebound of covid-19 contagions in recent days.
