Now, we plan to close 2024 with a rate of 1.8 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. The lowest in the entire Western Hemisphere. Since March 27, 2022, the government of El Salvador has maintained the regime of emergency due to the increase in homicides that occurred between 25 and 26 of the same month, which left a tragic death toll of 76 murders attributed to gangs. The scheme was approved for 30 days and has been extended every month since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This measure suspends the rights of defence, the period of administrative detention of 72 hours and the inviolability of correspondence and telecommunications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 6, the Legislative Assembly approved the 27th extension of the emergency regime after receiving the request of the newly appointed legal secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Adolfo Mu\u00f1oz.
