The Government of Guatemala mentions that the United States has already welcomed the fact that economist Hugo Beteta is the ambassador to that country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) of Guatemala announced on April 4 that economist Hugo Beteta will be appointed as the next Guatemalan Ambassador to the United States, based in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beteta was the candidate nominated by the Government of Guatemala and according to the Minex, this person has been welcomed by the Government of the United States of America for that position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This appointment is in the process and it is mentioned that the respective agreement is being prepared for Beteta to take office soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Minex, Beteta had a strategic stake in President Bernardo Ar\u00e9valo’s recent official tour of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beteta has a broad professional career in the economic and diplomatic field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beteta holds a graduate of Rafael Land\u00edvar University in Guatemala where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, he earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering and Administration, as well as a Master’s degree in Regional Urban Planning at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also completed a PhD in Development Economics and Urban Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and obtained a certificate in Harvard University Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At work level, he was subregional director of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) from 2011 to 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was secretary general of the Inter-American Development Bank from 2007 to 2009 and was also Guatemalan Minister of Finance between 2006 and 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was also the National Planning Secretary of Guatemala, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration and vice-rector of the Rafael Land\u00edvar University of Guatemala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese, according to his resume, and has made research publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
