A low-profile boat, located 630 nautical miles (1,167 kilometers) southwest of the Bocana El Cordoncillo, Estero de Jaltepeque, was intercepted by the Salvadoran Navy, managing to seize large quantities of drugs.
Through X (formerly Twitter), El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, announced the operation and detailed that the seized contains “approximately two tons of cocaine,” which is valued at $50 million.
He also stressed that three potential crew members were arrested in the operation: one Colombian and two Ecuadorians. The identity of the detainees was not revealed.
According to Bukele, in the last five weeks alone, El Salvador has made four large drug seizures valued at more than $140 million.
Mexicans convicted of drug trafficking
On May 24, exactly a month ago, the Third Sentencing Court of San Salvador sentenced six Mexican citizens to 10 years in prison for the crime of illicit trafficking of 809 kg of cocaine with a commercial value of more than $20 million.
