The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, won the elections held this Sunday with 57.51 percent of the valid votes cast, according to the preliminary official results released in the early morning of Monday by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), so he will govern a new four-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scrutinized 90.56 percent of the polling stations installed, Abinader, who was nominated by the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), obtained 2,254,961 votes (equivalent to 57.51 percent of the valid votes cast).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there are former President Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez (Force of the People), with 28.86 percent (1,131,649 votes), and the mayor of Santiago de los Caballeros, Abel Mart\u00ednez, of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), with 10.35 percent (406,014). Six other candidates are still winning more modest endorsements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Sunday’s day took place in an atmosphere of tranquillity and almost without incident. In a message to the country at the end of the elections, the JCE highlighted the participation and civic and democratic performance of the Dominican people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the country, 16,747 polling stations were installed and 1,545 were installed abroad. Nearly 90,000 citizens ensured its operation in the Caribbean nation. Delegates from the parties accredited to the schools were able to participate in the count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elections were followed by more than 2,300 electoral observers, 400 of them international.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I assume the trust I have received and the obligation not to disappoint her. I won’t fail them. And above any partisan feeling is my loyalty and pride and my commitment is to the Dominican people,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader stressed that his commitment has been to work with all and for all Dominicans, and he indicated that changes and reforms must continue to be deepened, for the sake of progress and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Four years ago I stood before you in the hope of change and now I do so when I make that hopeful change,” he said, adding that during his administration he will guarantee the country to promote a constitutional reform, which he hopes will be the last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This electoral victory, in my case, will be the last, because I will respect the limits in the Constitution. I’m not going to be a candidate again. It is my word, it is my commitment and will be part of my legacy to the Dominican Republic,” he announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader also thanked the Dominicans who competed for the presidency of the Dominican Republic, and announced that former candidates Abel Mart\u00ednez and former President Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez congratulated them by telephone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this sense, in his X account, former President Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez confirmed that he spoke on the phone with the re-elected president “to recognize his electoral triumph and wish him success in his management.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
