Former presidential candidate of the Arena party for the 2014 elections Norman Quijano was sentenced by the Second Criminal Chamber of San Salvador to 13 years and four months in prison for the crimes of illicit groups and procedural fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) provided videos, telephone audios and documentary and witness evidence to demonstrate to the camera that Quijano, who is currently at large, met with gang leaders to reach agreements and negotiate votes in his favor for the 2014 presidential elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quijano ran for president after being elected mayor of San Salvador for the second time by the Arena party in the 2012 municipal elections. In 2014, he lost the presidential presidential runoff against FMLN candidate Salvador S\u00e1nchez Cer\u00e9n, who ruled in the five-year period 2014-2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quijano, after the 2015 electoral defeat, participated in the legislative elections and was a deputy for the department of San Salvador. For the 2018 parliamentary elections of Parlacen, he was elected deputy of that Central American entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FGR assured that the Second Criminal Chamber of San Salvador will notify Parlacen about the conviction, so that it begins the appropriate procedure and Quijano be disqualified from the position of deputy of that body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
