The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, said this Friday during the VIII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), that peace is anti-imperialist and anti-Hygemony, and that any country in the region that wishes to support the war would be supporting imperialism and hegemony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the morning session of the summit of regional leaders of this intergovernmental regional integration mechanism, which is in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Sanvicentino head of government stated that imperialism and hegemony are natural enemies of peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonsalves recalled that the 33 nations that are part of the Celac committed themselves to dealing with their differences through dialogue. He stressed that anyone objectively supporting the war would be supporting imperialism and hegemony. “We don’t have to go that way,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that justice, prosperity, civilized life are the means of peace. We must seek peace, in our case for the good of the region and of all humanity, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that regional peace and stability are undermined by arms trafficking aimed at transnational gangs, and made it clear that they come mainly from the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that that country has its own values and a constitutional amendment on the right to carry weapons, but questioned whether the White House wants those values to be manifested in our nations without the permission of its peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, he supported the initiative of the Mexican Government to file legal action against U.S. arms manufacturers, and welcomed the fact that U.S. judicial courts have hosted these trials, which are followed with a keen interest among the nations of the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
