Mexican drug lord Joaqu\u00edn “El Chapo” Guzman died in a private clinic for apparent sequelae after falling ill with covid-19 in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mar\u00eda Consuelo Loera<\/strong>, mother of Mexican drug trafficker <\/strong>Joaqu\u00edn “El Chapo” Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong><\/a>, died this Sunday afternoon at the age of 94<\/strong>, according to local media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman, also grandmother of the drug traffickers known as the “Chapitos,” current leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel,<\/strong> was reportedly killed in a private clinic in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa, as she suffered sequelae after having become ill with covid-19 in 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Loera was publicly captured in March 2020 during a brief meeting with the President of Mexico, Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador, when the president went to the area to supervise the construction of the Badiraguato – Guadalupe and Calvo road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On that visit, on March 29, 2020, despite the covid-19 pandemic, the Mexican ruler got out of his van to greet Loera,<\/strong> who asked him for help to visit his son, imprisoned in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I greet you, don’t get off, don’t get off, I already received your letter,” the president told the Chapo mom at the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president referred to a letter that Loera sent him, in which he asked him for support for his government to intervene with the United States<\/strong> in order to allow her to visit her son<\/strong> in the maximum-security prison ADX Florence, in the United States, where he has been held since 2019 serving a life sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00f3pez Obrador’s greeting to El Chapo’s mother earned her a series of criticisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the president not only defended the meeting but also sought<\/strong> to support it<\/strong> to manage a humanitarian visa so that she and her daughters could go to visit the drug dealer in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joaqu\u00edn “El Chapo” Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong><\/a> and his son and grandson of Consuelo, Ovidio Guzm\u00e1n, are currently being held in the United States, facing accusations related to drug trafficking.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
