Algumas dessas subst\u00e2ncias nunca haviam sido detectadas no planeta vermelho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O estudo foi publicado nesta ter\u00e7a-feira (21) na revista Nature Communications. A descoberta n\u00e3o prova que houve vida em Marte. Por\u00e9m, mostra que a superf\u00edcie do planeta \u00e9 capaz de preservar exatamente o tipo de mol\u00e9cula que poderia servir como evid\u00eancia de vida antiga. Isso, por si s\u00f3, j\u00e1 \u00e9 um marco na astrobiologia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Achamos que estamos olhando para mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica preservada em Marte h\u00e1 3,5 bilh\u00f5es de anos,&#8221; disse Amy Williams, professora de ci\u00eancias geol\u00f3gicas da Universidade da Fl\u00f3rida e l\u00edder do estudo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Como o experimento foi feito<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>O Curiosity est\u00e1 em Marte desde 2012. Em 2020, ele realizou um experimento qu\u00edmico in\u00e9dito na regi\u00e3o de Glen Torridon, dentro da cratera Gale. Essa \u00e9 uma antiga bacia rica em argilas \u2014 minerais conhecidos por reter e preservar compostos org\u00e2nicos melhor do que outros materiais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O rover usou uma subst\u00e2ncia chamada TMAH para fragmentar mol\u00e9culas org\u00e2nicas maiores. Isso permitiu que seus instrumentos as analisassem com mais precis\u00e3o. O Curiosity carregava apenas dois recipientes com esse reagente. Por isso, a equipe precisou planejar cuidadosamente o local mais promissor para a coleta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9 a primeira vez que esse tipo de experimento qu\u00edmico foi realizado em outro planeta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">O que foi encontrado<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Entre os compostos detectados, dois se destacam. O primeiro \u00e9 uma mol\u00e9cula que cont\u00e9m nitrog\u00eanio e tem estrutura semelhante \u00e0 de subst\u00e2ncias que deram origem ao DNA. Ela nunca havia sido identificada em Marte antes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O segundo \u00e9 um composto que costuma chegar aos planetas carregado por meteoritos. Esse mesmo tipo de material, acredita-se, ajudou a criar as condi\u00e7\u00f5es para o surgimento da vida na Terra. Sua presen\u00e7a em Marte refor\u00e7a uma conex\u00e3o entre os dois planetas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Por que isso importa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>O que torna o achado ainda mais relevante \u00e9 o fato de que essas mol\u00e9culas sobreviveram por bilh\u00f5es de anos em um ambiente extremamente hostil. Marte \u00e9 bombardeado por radia\u00e7\u00e3o c\u00f3smica, tem uma atmosfera muito mais fina que a da Terra e enfrenta varia\u00e7\u00f5es dr\u00e1sticas de temperatura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainda assim, as argilas da cratera Gale funcionaram como uma esp\u00e9cie de c\u00e1psula protetora. Elas mantiveram os compostos intactos ao longo de eras geol\u00f3gicas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essa descoberta abre uma perspectiva importante. Se mol\u00e9culas t\u00e3o delicadas sobreviveram tanto tempo, outras subst\u00e2ncias potencialmente mais reveladoras tamb\u00e9m podem estar preservadas em algum lugar da superf\u00edcie ou subsuperf\u00edcie marciana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">O que ainda falta responder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>O experimento tem um limite importante. Ele n\u00e3o consegue determinar se os compostos encontrados vieram de vida antiga, de processos geol\u00f3gicos naturais ou de meteoritos que colidiram com Marte ao longo de sua hist\u00f3ria. As tr\u00eas origens s\u00e3o poss\u00edveis. Nenhuma pode ser descartada com os dados dispon\u00edveis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para responder a essa quest\u00e3o com certeza, seria necess\u00e1rio trazer amostras de rocha marciana de volta \u00e0 Terra. Laborat\u00f3rios terrestres s\u00e3o muito mais sofisticados do que qualquer instrumento que caiba em um rover. Esse \u00e9 justamente o objetivo de miss\u00f5es que est\u00e3o sendo planejadas por ag\u00eancias dos Estados Unidos e da Europa para as pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Agora sabemos que existem mol\u00e9culas grandes e complexas preservadas na superf\u00edcie de Marte, e isso \u00e9 muito promissor para a busca de compostos que possam ser um sinal de vida,&#8221; disse
